This Is Homeschool: August 30, 2013
A typical morning spent reading in our jammies.
As we prepare to begin a new year of schooling at home with a kindergartner, a preschooler & a toddler, I continue to learn something new on a daily basis in regards to homeschooling.
We can choose to do whatever we want, whenever we want.
Thus far, I would consider our family a blend between unschoolers & structured schoolers. We find the children are happy playing often, though they seek the structure we find in our day through doing things such as workbooks, reading, math, experiments, etc. We will continue on this path until fate speaks differently.
We get out very often to socialize with friends and family. I have created a homeschool co-op composed of local families with similar-aged children. We gather weekly for fantastic outings where we always learn something fun and new! I will be posting updates throughout the year to share the interesting outings we take.
As well, we are members of several local Moms’ groups and we have plenty of amazing friends and family with whom we get together frequently.
So, no worries about socializing our homeschooled kids. They get more interaction than those in a structured school setting, for sure!! It’s great to see them developing relationships with others of all ages. Human interaction is so important in life!
To those of you who say summer is over because school has begun – Bah Humbug! The summer season is most certainly still upon us! This month, we are continuing to enjoy our summer and are in no hurry to start the “school year”. Every moment is a learning experience and we always are on the lookout for educational opportunities in our every day life.
