A Resolution

A Resolution

It’s about time I come to my senses. Wake up to smell the coffee. Get with the program. Step back into the swing of things.

I am overweight.

I am fat.

I eat too much and exercise too little.

(But it’s not my fault. Or is it?!)

In my defense, I have been either pregnant or nursing for SIX YEARS STRAIGHT up until this year. I’ve maintained my household, started a thriving business from nothing, homeschooled three kids, and still somehow managed to keep my sanity. But my body? My “me time”?? Well, that’s a different story. Every time I attempted to work out at a gym or get some exercise, a child vomited from crying so much or it started to rain or there wasn’t enough money to join a gym or there were dishes to do or peg dolls to be painted or… You know how it goes. The list of excuses goes on and on.

I can confidently say that I feel our kids are now old enough (ages 2, 4, & 5) for me to start paying a little attention to myself. It’s time for MEMEME!! Just a few hours a week. Wouldn’t you agree?

In celebration, I’m putting it out there for the world to see: I am going to lose a significant amount of weight in the next several months/years. I am not going to “diet” or stop eating nor will I hire a physical trainer or go to the gym ten days a week. I will eat better and exercise more. I don’t want to put a time frame on it because I don’t have time for disappointment, only improvement.

Today, I started a second mini-cleanse by eating more whole foods and less processed foods, no sugar, less dairy, less carbs/gluten. I started the day with a warm lemon water (a great cleansing suggestion by my fellow homeschool Mama friend at Ray Of Radiance). I also went to the gym for the first time in a very. long. time. It happens to be right around the corner from our house so that makes it not only convenient, but a little extra exercise to get there and back. My husband & I found a plan that will hopefully work – we take turns going on his work lunch break and/or in the evenings & on weekends. That way, someone can watch the kids and we don’t have to pay extra money for babysitting or a bigger gym membership.

I started more conscious eating last week and I am pleased to see I am down three pounds. I would say that’s a good start.

What are your best tips for getting back into the groove? Any helpful suggestions to ease back into a healthier life?

  1. I think it’s great just recognizing it’s time to really start taking care of yourself. It’s so easy to make other things a priority over you! Some of my suggestions would include never make a certain food/dish a “no-no”. The more you deprive yourself certain indulgences the more you’ll want it. Simply remember everything in moderation. It’s okay to leave some food left on your plate too, as opposed to what your parents might have said growing up. Also, in case of over indulgence, don’t get down on yourself. Just get back on track the next day and remind yourself 1 day will not hurt a week’s worth of good eating. I’ll be with you on the same journey for myself. Thanks for the post 🙂
