The Good, The Bad & The Ugly Of Pregnancy: 17 weeks & counting…

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly Of Pregnancy: 17 weeks & counting…

I think I’m feeling better.  Right now, anyway.

Each day brings a new series of “oh yeah’s”, meaning there’s a new “symptom” of pregnancy that I forgot alllllll about.

Today:  heartburn, nausea, heartburn, gagging, heartburn.  EVERYTHING gives me heartburn.  Tomato sauce, spicy foods, greasy foods, sure, but I try to stay away from those foods.  How about…WATER.  Nothing I can really do about it but wait another 23+ weeks.  And since I know it will only get worse, I have stocked up on the Pepcid.  *I am not a fan of medication, however, after ending up with kidney stones with my first pregnancy because of Rolaid overuse, I tend to need something to ease the discomfort.  The double trouble comes when the heartburn mixes with the nausea.  It is so attractive to dry heave first thing in the morning when waking up next to my love.  He must find me irresistible.

My nails are growing like weeds & my hair is thickening (better yet I’m not losing Chewbacca-like amounts in the shower), so I’ve got that going for me.

Outweighing everything else this week, however, is the fact that we are having another baby & time is ticking so we get to meet this growing bundle in just a few short months!  The joy of pregnancy is setting in like wildfire.  I started to feel little flutters probably by 12 weeks with this pregnancy.  Cool!  I am already in love WE are already in love!  Our daughter has affectionately named the baby “Ma’Lamby” if it’s a girl or “Pinocchino” which is her standard name for a baby boy in utero.  She is already very protective & thoughtful of this baby, which is entirely endearing.  Our son is possibly not prepared for what is to come, as he tends to be a little rough with not only my belly, but also other newborns/infants/babies we encounter.  Uh Oh!  Surely I’ll be blogging about that on its own soon enough!  He is very curious about babies in general, & I think he knows something is brewing.  We know he will love this baby regardless but only time will tell.

I’m reading & watching everything I can het my hands & eyes on!  My favorites this time?  ANYTHING by Ina May Gaskin.  She is a midwife pioneer & true genius in her field.  My Bradley friends & myself often refer to her as our “BFF” (despite the fact we have never met the woman)!  Also, “The Business Of Being Born”, & hopefully soon, “More Business Of Being Born”.  Insightful & true.  The producers of the films, Ricki Lake & Abby Epstein, also wrote a great book, “My Best Birth“, which also happens to have a great website with a fantastic bunch of forums & information.  I am a huge fan.  As if that is not enough, I can recommend literature, films, websites, etc etc for days & days.  & I will.  These short few just happen to be what I’m into this week.  Stay posted :).
